Spanish Point Golf Club are accepting new members. Spread the word of the fantastic new package available to golfers. New members can join for the very attractive price of €260. This is fantastic value for a course that has the potential to run all Winter with qualifying competitions as a result of the favorable course conditions.

Spanish Point Golf Club Products are now available, with our Club Logo, either in the Clubhouse or they can be purchased by phone/email.  SPGC Logo balls, tees, towels, divot tools, ball markers and gloves are continuing to sell well.

The course is going through some work which started in November 2017 and is now almost completed. The latest phase of work that was highlighted to be completed as part of a 5-year rolling plan is underway. The work that is planned, is to address the following areas:

  1. Improve the visibility of the 1st fairway from the 1st tee.
  2. Increase the green teeing area on the 4th Hole.
  3. Remove the tiers from teeing ground on 6th Hole.
  4. Widen the walkway at the exit from the 9th green.

It is hoped that all works will be completed in the coming days.

Greens: The greens are rolling well and the feedback being received from visitors is superb. The greens have developed small patches of the anthracnose disease. This is a disease that we are susceptible to but can be managed capably by our greenkeeper Denny Gallery. The grass was growing very slowly which is the ideal conditions for this disease to thrive.

What does anthracnose look like and how does it affect the roll? It appears as irregular yellow or bronze patches of diseased turf. The greens have now been treated to stop the spread and this should run its course. The roll of the ball should still be fine and many may not notice the disease.

Tees: Work started on the green 4th tee and also on the 6th tee.

The next mixed competition:
A Mixed competition will take place on Sunday 21st January before the Captains' Drive-in. A draw for teams will take place at 10:50; Drive-in at 2pm.

Ladies Club:
The Winter League began in November with 7 teams participating.  The competition is run in conjunction with the weekly competitions until the end of February when the team with the best 7 (seven) scores will be deemed the winners

All the ladies competitions are well supported in spite of the bad weather. The recent 13 hole S/F was won by Kathleen Twomey with 31pts from Fiona O'Boyle with 25pts. There is also a 9 hole R/E in operation for January.

Lady Captain Ann White will drive into office with Mens Captain Noel Connellan on Sunday January 21st at 2pm, this will be preceded by a 9 hole scramble at 11am. Come out and support your Captains and enjoy the celebrations afterwards. Happy New Year to all.

Men’s Club
History will be made at Spanish Point with the hosting of the first nine-hole qualifying open singles on New Year's Day.

'Time for 9' is a R&A (Royal and Ancient) initiative and the aim of nine-hole golf is to offer club members the opportunity to play competitive golf in less time, allowing members to stay involved in the club and maintain their handicap.

Nine-hole competitions can be played by anyone, whether new to the game, find 18 holes too challenging or simly have less time that you used to.  SPGC has been running the nine-hole competitions for the last number of weeks and they have proven to be very popular.

There was a Festival of Golf over the Christmas period, which was very successful.

Bank of Ireland Enterprise Night
The Enterprise Night the 10th of November was a huge success.

Spanish Point Golf Club are delighted to have great sponsors and we are grateful for the support we receive. We are offering a range of sponsorship packages at present and they are detailed under the Sponsorship tab.
